About Written in Fire

Seventeen-year-old Lia Morra’s life takes a dark turn after her father’s death and his cryptic last words, ‘I hope you don’t hate me too much when you find out.’  Her estranged mother shows up with crushing news—she must leave before her senior year to attend a school on the mysterious Lovelock Island, where her mother serves as chancellor. There, Lia discovers she’s inherited her father’s supernatural abilities, including shapeshifting and psychic powers, but with the dangerous potential to become a serial killer like him.

Amidst this new world, Lia bonds with a group of supernaturals while investigating the suspicious death of a student. Lia unravels her father’s grim past, squares up against her duplicitous mother, and even finds the time to embark on a tumultuous romance. Determined to break free from her father's violent legacy, Lia must fight to prevent the same darkness from consuming her and ensure the apple falls far from the tree. Very far.

Alexandra Weadon

Written in Fire is my debut novel, though I’ve been writing all my life. I love writing quick-witted, sardonic heroines just as much as I love my ferocious, savage villains.

I was born and raised in Central Pennsylvania and have been living in New York City for the past twenty years. When I’m not writing, I’m analyzing books and short stories, including my own, with 100+ fourteen-year-olds as a public school teacher. I am a member of SCBWI and NYC-based writer’s group Underground YA, and recently became a finalist for Killer Nashville’s 2024 Claymore Award.

I live in Brooklyn with my wife of ten years and my daughters: Sadie the cockapoo and Paulie the tuxedo cat.
